The novel vacuum dryer technology for biomaterials was already introduced briefly on this website. Now www.foodengineering.info is proudly presents the first industrial prototype of this kind of dryer!
The vacuum space treatments are known in the industry. The process is carried out at low pressure, so energy requirement of the evaporation is about one-third of the conventional dryers. The process shortens the drying time and because of the exhaust is conducted into a vapor condenser the method is environmentally friendly. The biologically sensitive, easy remoisturable materials are produced by freeze drying. However this high-cost procedure is affordable only in case of high-value products, for example for intermediates in the food industry or Nescafé.
In the frame of a project with Rona Dryer (EU-HUN) a new system "high tech" vacuum dryer prototype was developed which deals with the traditional drying costs but produces quality at the level of freeze-drying. The prototype is a tray-dryer with special oil heating and handling. The operating parameters are very special as well, so it is possible to achieve this excellent performance. The theoretical background of the project provided by www.foodengineering.info . The dryer differs from the vacuum dryers on the market both of the technical solutions and the control process.
In the technical area because of the novelty of the design, preparation and execution took more time than normal, but in the end (next to the other barriers), the prototype has been made on time. From July the prototype can now join to the summer campaign, so the test run is almost ideally begins and in September and it is expected to be completed.
